Builtin item renderers render items with custom code. They allow using non-model rendering, such as BERs, for items.

An item with a builtin renderer must have a model extending minecraft:builtin/entity. The renderers are registered with BuiltinItemRendererRegistry.register(Item, BuiltinItemRenderer).
